    I would suggest that you build the front end as Jürgen Mages did and use 2 sealed bearings for the pivot. The attachment points at the axle of the chain stays are too weak and will continue to fail....

    Should be no problem using larger wheels as the ride will be better than smaller wheels. The only thing will be the power it takes to get a larger wheel started and keep it going especially up hills....
