    Default Postimage.org issue

This may be temporary, so it's FYI

I couldn't see some photo's on some threads, or I wasn't able to 'click to enlarge',
so I checked my own threads.

This is what I got when going to the postimage.org website.

    This message was posted.

postimg.ORG domain is locked by Registry, no prior notice.
While we hope to resolve the issue, we chose postimg.CC as our new home.

    Not sure there Ed.
It may be a denial of service hackers attack.
I logged into my account and photos on still there.
Just checked on of my old posts and photos are there.
There is mention that postimage.cc is forbidden and locking people out on another website mentioning same issue with Postimage.org.

So I am not sure what's going on.

    Hi Bruce

When I check into the StreetRunners thread, the photo's are there.
BUT, if you click on the photo for the enlarged version, I get this...

    This site can’t be reached
postimg.org’s server IP address could not be found.
    DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

On my Tab 2, all I get is the little square blue icon with a '?' in it.

And not only did it upload, you can click on it and it enlarges...go figure !
Yet it won't work that way with photos already uploaded...at least not for me.

All my photos are GONE !

    StreetRunner thread - photo's GONE!
    Inferno thread ---------photo's GONE!!
Turn Buckle Spoke Wheel thread - photo's GONE !!!

Upon further check, anyone using 'postimage.org', your photo's may no longer be there.

Anyone using the new 'postimg.CC' your photo's appear to be still there.

Because my posts are heavy with photo's, this is frustrating, and disappointing.

    Blame FOSTA-SESTA law.
Third party provides can be charged and fined for each customer that might use their services for the purpose of solicitation. So many free services are moving offshore to avoid being fined by law enforcement because someone might use their services. I was not aware photoimage had any worries. But they don't control the photos anyone posts. So this is a defensive move on their part would be my guess.

    Thanks for that Bruce

First 'photobucket' caused many on this site, to loose the photo's, in their threads.
Now 'postimage' seems to have dealt another blow, to posting photo's here.

There surely must be a better way, to post content, without the fear of someday loosing it.

    Guy's & Gal's

It might make a difference if the photo's were uploaded via postimage.org,
or another host, i.e, Imageshack, tinypics, etc.

    Those may still work.

Unless you want to find a business and pay for storing the photos I don't think there will be many good options. And with FCC killing off net neutrality(happen today) who knows what tomorrow will bring. Not trying to be political here. US FCC removed rules that forced businesses not to restrict internet traffic from competitors. Those rules have been removed.

    Hi Folks

Just looked at my old threads , all have lost their photos , now the threads are as much use as a chocolate teapot in the desert. The worst bit is even with a new host the threads cannot be edited to incorporate any new picture editing.

It's a sad day for us

    Later's Emma.

    I don't believe it !

    I got a response from postimage.org

    Here it is;

    Hello, ed jackman

postimg.org domain is locked by Registry, no prior notice.
Please update image links and replace "postimg.org" to "postimg.cc"
Easy way is update database or use search&replace plugins. Please ask forum admins to do it.

    Best regards,
    Postimage support

Emma, is what they say above, what you were referring too?

The only way to correct the thread problem would be if Brad could open the limited edit facilities,
but this would take months of "uploading and editing to recover a few of the photos "

" my take was that communally each of us could redirect our photos if we were allowed to but this will take considerable time"

I really don't know what their corrective action really entails.
Is it as simple as changing from postimage.org, to postimg.CC in the database, and all is well, or does it have to be done for 'every photo'?

I'm still not satisfied by their response, of just re-sending their previous notice.

I had 70,000 photos on photobook for my "others work around the world" thread. http://forum.atomiczombie.com/showth...s+bikes+around
Most links still work but 6 years of detailed work of my own personal builds showing step by step instructions is held ransom at a cost of 400.00 a year. Kind of rips a persons heart out while getting pee'd on. Never in my life have I spent hundreds of hours of work for nothing. Lucky for them this happened when I was 60 and not in my 30's. LOL
Inspiring others to dream is my motivation.

I was beginning to think I was alone, in this.

Anybody need a 'chocolate tea pot' ?

Graucho, nice to hear from you.
To bad it's on such a sad occasion as this.

You sir, of anyone here, have surely felt the gut wrenching discovery the hardest.

    For me...

I want to continue providing, to this site, but I'm not one for 'Word Pictures'.
Not sure how to proceed. Maybe something will pop up. Oops !, bad choice of words.
Can't believe we are the only ones in the world with this problem.

Oh! woe is me, what to do, what to do ?

My photos are still in postimage.com

    but my threads are empty.

To be fair, Postimage has NOT "lost" any of our photos. They just are no longer reference-able in our old posts as the domain has changed.
So to complain about a "free" service is a bit rich (IMHO).
There is not a lot Postimage can do about it they had to move their business to a new domain due to pressure from their previous domain host.
They are correct that a global search & replace within the AZ content records would resolve the issue everyone is experiencing, but it is probably not something Brad has the time to do right now.
Similarly, I don't want to go trawling through every post I have ever made on the AZ forum looking for "Postimage.org" and manually altering it.

Its a new development, no-one has died and photo's are still available at the postimage source.

I'm going to take a "chill-pill" and not let it spoil my day.
    Regards,
    Dan.

Global Search and Replace is the answer. Can be automated with HTML Editing software if the source code is available. Could also enjoy a cup of coffee while doing it.

It is all about the extension of files.
Old files have the extension '.org', new ones have the extension '.cc'.
It seems that Postimage has renamed all the picture from .org to .cc. In the old treads the links point to .org-pictures.
Apparently it is impossible to reedit the old treads and change the extensions in the links.

    For Me

    It's all about Trust

It's all well and good, to say 'use' the new postimg.cc, which seems to be working....
....BUT ! can postimage be trusted, to not throw away, more of our photo's again?

    About Postimage
Postimage was founded in 2004 to provide message boards with an easy way to upload images for free. Postimage is a very simple, fast and reliable free image service. It's perfect for linking to auctions, message boards, blogs and other websites. Postimage guarantees maximum uptime and performance so that your image will be here whenever you need it. There is no registration or login; all you have to do is submit your picture. With continuous upgrades and dedicated staff Postimage is the #1 solution for Free Image Hosting.

    So much for 'guarantees'

I'm not sure their 'short' explanation is totally honest.
I've lost nearly five years worth of work. Other's the same or more.

I don't make it a habit to read lengthy word descriptions of projects.
So I don't expect others, to do the same with my posts.

Therefore I like to use the one picture (with explanations) is worth a thousand words method.

    OP-ED

As a former business owner, 'quality service' was what kept us ahead of the competition.

And whether that 'service' is 'free' or paid for, if it is offered to the public,
it should still maintain the same level of quality .

Postimage.org has yet (to my knowledge) apologized, for the loss of service regarding photo retrieval.

It is a shame this was brought down to the personal level. But it was.
So if anyone finds this to be too 'rich', then I am one very wealthy man.

This will be my last post on this subject, however here is my reply to the postimage.org reply.

Your reply comes as a complete surprise.

Yet, I find your answer is still totally without merit.
Still no apology, from anyone in the postimage.org organizantion.
All you have done is re-send virtually the same original message.

I'm sure all of you are IT experts and can solve most any problem, that may creep into your computers.
Many if not most of the users in the 'real world' are not experts.

As most business failures, I don't expect your business to tell, us your customers, the truth about what is 'really' the issue.
And to suggest that I, as a customer, or our forum admin, should solve/correct the problem, is bad customer service.

I was a loyal customer, and though the service that you offered me, was free, it was a service which you, guaranteed.
A service that still required the same quality service, as any other service.
You have failed in that guarantee, and failed me as a loyal customer.
