As I describe in another post (a new thread on trike hinges), I've identified the main challenge as to determine the orientation of the hinge plate. It seems to be rotated in two or three dimensions.
Sorry, all of John's files perished with John.
As far as I can see the hinge on my 2 frames is set directly across the frame section but with the hinge-pin at 45 Degrees or so. Very easy to measure I think, happy to set a digital doo-dad on it and measure the relative placement.

In studying the photos of the ICE rear end that Emma sent me, it seems like what you say is possible. Perhaps I was confused by the camera angle in ICE's video. (I am never quite confident that I am processing visual information properly; it is perhaps my weakest faculty.)
